How It Works: Activates Soil Biology at the Fertilizer, Root, and Soil Interface

When IgniteS4® is innoculated onto dry fertilizer or blended into liquid fertilizer, its biological compounds coat or disperse throughout the fertilizer matrix. As that fertilizer is applied and placed into the soil, IgniteS4® moves with the nutrient band or granule zone, concentrating its activity exactly where nutrient release and uptake are supposed to happen. This is important because the fertilizer zone is also where nutrient tie up, fixation, and loss can occur. 

Once in the soil, IgniteS4® stimulates native microbial populations and increases enzymatic activity around the fertilizer placement area and emerging roots. This biological response helps convert tied up forms of nutrition into plant available forms, supporting more efficient nutrient release and uptake over time. In practical terms, IgniteS4® helps the crop access more of the nutrients already being applied by improving the biological environment surrounding the fertilizer, the soil, and the root interface.

In an Arkansas State University fertilizer trial, IgniteS4-treated corn showed higher total plant nutrient uptake 30 days after planting.

Application Methods and Recommended Rates

Dry fertilizer impregnation

The IgniteS4® application process must be performed by a commercial fertilizer retailer properly equipped for fertilizer impregnation.

Dry Fertilizer Impregnation

  • IgniteS4® must be done by a commercial fertilizer retailer.
  • Use 96 oz per ton when applying under 250 lbs of fertilizer per acre.
  • 64 oz per ton for 250–400 lbs
  • 32 oz per ton for over 400 lbs.

Liquid Fertilizer Injection

  • For liquid fertilizer injection, add IgniteS4® to the fertilizer to achieve at least 8 oz/acre (236 ml/acre), blending thoroughly before application
